From what I remember it played very similarly to the one found in the PCE version, but I don't exactly recall either stage layout. Think of it as another great Gradius game rather than a port of the arcade original.Īnd yes, the C64 version does have the bone level. It's a bit easier than the PCE and Arcade versions of Gradius, though, I was able to one-credit it within a few hours (while the PCE version took me about a week). It's not quite as good as the PCE one, but excellently made and very well worth tracking down.

Speaking of the bone level, are the MSX and PC Engine versions the only ones that have it? The level's actually totally different in each version, but the theme is the same. So nothing makes it worth hunting down, eh? Do you recall if it has the extra bone level the PC Engine and MSX versions have? Does the Arcade/Saturn/Playstation version have this slowdown as well? Like in the first level with those big fire dragons, or the second level where those tentacles are flailing about. Did the US version come with a translated version of this? (doubtful)Ħ: Gradius 2 Gofer on the X68000 has slowdown in some areas. It's got a bunch of nice pictures, but it's in Japanese. Which one of these is the easiest? I'm trying to work my way up from easiest to hardest.Ĥ: Are there any Gradius games not worth playing? I hear Gradius 4 isn't so hot, and is insanely difficult as well.ĥ: I've got the Japanese version of Gradius V, and it came with a little booklet "The history of Vic Viper". I've got Gradius 2, Gradius Gaiden,Life Force (NES), Gradius III (SNES), Gradius V, and Parodius Da. Do any of those versions have any special new features that make them worth playing (extra levels, stuff like that)?Ģ: Is the ending different for the second loop than the first loop?ģ: I'm ready to move on to another Gradius game. I believe there's also versions for the C64, X1, PC-88, Amstrad, and Spectrum. I haven't beat the MSX version yet, but I'm pretty close. But I've got general Gradius-related questions, and rather than start a bunch of new threads, I figured I'd just throw them all into one.ġ: I've played through the first loops of X68000, PC-Engine, and NES versions of Gradius 1. Played it as a kid, didn't like it, but recently started playing again and now I'm in love with the series.

Giger's designs, which are prominently seen on the Alien movie franchise.Okay, recently I became a convert to Gradius. Both enemies (and the stage itself) are inspired from H.R.

  • Two enemies from this stage were lifted straight from Contra, the purple pods and the facehugger like creatures.
  • Theme of Boss Fight and Enemy Base 2 - The Final Enemy. Theme of Air Battle #1 - Air 1 Tabidachi. At the end, you'll face two bosses, Big Eye from the arcade version, and Giga from Life Force NES as an additional boss. If you don't kill them, they'll release four quick moving spiders. Keep shooting at the top and be sure to kill the purple flower creatures as soon as possible. Fly up near the top of the screen and start shooting everything at the top, and let your missile take care of the bottom. After you get past the really narrow stretch, this is where your missiles will come into play. The best part is that you can laugh at them, because only two can be on the screen at a time. The big blue arms are too tough to bother with. When you start the next part of the level, there's a bunch of ground enemies that you need to kill. These "shrimp" can each fetch you a power up, but they take a couple of shots to kill. You'll want to keep choosing down until you get up to the round orange enemy that go around and around their platform. You have to shoot it to make a path through it. There is a bunch of red coral-like stuff blocking your flight path. The boss, on the other hand, is Giga, a Life Force boss encountered after the destruction of the level. The mini-boss is Big Eye, guardian and probably the heart of the fortress. This stage is based from the same stage of the arcade version, Alien, but with a few changes like the music, color pattern and enemies. This is a pseudo-organic themed level inside of a massive fortress made of metallic skulls and barriers that completely block the flight path.
